We actively promote homework and in response to feedback from pupils, parents and carers about this, we have streamlined procedures around this.
Once a term, pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 will be given project-based homework, to be completed over a period of approximately 6 weeks (one half term).
In addition to this, all pupils will be given weekly spellings or phonics as well as Numeracy Passport targets to be practised daily at home. Activities, including those found in Mathletics and the Nelson scheme will be signposted and/or provided to help pupils to practise their basic skills at home and to help parents and carers to support their children with this. Spellings will be tested weekly and test scores recorded in pupils’ Home-School Record books and Planners, so that parents and carers are kept informed of their child’s progress. Numeracy Passport targets will be tested by an adult in class at least once per fortnight.
Pupils are also expected to read every day and we recommend a period of at least 20 minutes (Y5/6), 15 minutes (Y3/4) or 10 minutes (Y1/2/R) for this.
