​This half term, year 1 have been looking at the 5 senses, taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing. This week, year 1 focused on the sense of smell. They had 5 boxes with an item inside which had a strong scent. The children were not allowed to look inside the boxes, however, they had to predict what item was in the box, just by smelling it. The children had so much fun carrying out this practical science activity and done an amazing job guessing which item was in the box.
Unfortunately, our classrooms now stink of garlic! 

​What is more, in English, year 1 have been focusing on the story ‘The Wrong Kind of Knight’. This story is about a young knight who does not like to ride or fight, however he likes to read, write, and knit. A king asks the knight to fight a dragon, but the knight was too scared and said he was the wrong kind of knight for the job. Fortunately, the dragon turned out to be a kind, small but very cold dragon who was just as scared, so the young knight knitted the small dragon some clothes to keep him warm. It turned out, the knight was the right kind of knight after all! We then carried out some writing activities to retell the story and write a character description using a range of adjectives about the characters in the story. 

​Furthermore, in maths, year 1 have been focusing on their 2 times tables. They looked at the pattern of the 2 times tables on a 100 square and understood that all numbers in the 2 times table ends in 2,4,6,8 and 0.
