4SA Pupil Blog

During our RE lessons in year 4 we have been learning about a range of religions. We started by looking at Hinduism. These are some of the things I learnt. Hindu's have specific rituals. Rituals are a set of actions that people follow. They are actions that can be done at home, outdoors or at a holy shrine. Diwali is celebrated by Hindus. Diwali is the festival of light. Rangoli patterns are used as decorations in many homes.

It’s Coming Home! - A Teacher Blog.

Read Now

This week, we have been allowed to inspire the school with our nation’s sporting successes, predominately the Men’s World Cup, but also - closely associated with this - the Women’s Euro 2022 success. Incorporated with this we delved into a range of arithmetic questions to play a game of Mathematics Top Trumps - which was very much enjoyed across the year group! We then looked into the lyrics of ’It’s Coming Home’ and the inspiration to Frank Skinner and David Biddiel to creating the song … though some were shocked to find out 56 years was the duration since our last win. Finally, in English, we explored grammatical challenges to solve the problem of who stole the World Cup; this time Pickles had not stolen the trophy, but a hypothetical character instead.

Below is just some of the work from across the week. Year Five have been a pleasure to teach and continue to impress.

Outdoor Learning Blog

Read Now

This term during outdoor learning time the children have been reading books with a moral to start their session.  Mrs Smith has been reading the story and then as a group the children have been discussing the moral of the story. The pupils have been considering how we talk to people and also how important it is to communicate our feelings.
The pupils have then been exploring the outdoor area. They have been bug hunting, bird watching, using the mud kitchen and playing team games. We have been on a tree hunt and looked at all the trees around our school.
On Armistice Day we remembered the brave solders and we worked together to gather red leaves and made a poppy using them.

Reception Blog

This half term we will be looking at people who help us and transport. We are looking at paramedics, doctors, dentists and vets, focussing on how they help people or animals in our community and what they need to help them. We will then look at the police force, the fire brigade and the coast guards. During this half term we will also look at space and aeroplanes.
We will be looking at the books ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’ by Quentin Blake, ‘The Hundred Decker Bus’ by Mike Smith and then just before Christmas we will read ‘Norman the slug who saved Christmas’ by Sue Hendra. As a class we will be discussing how we can express our feelings appropriately and considering the feelings of others.
In maths we will be looking at numbers 1-5 and representations of these numbers. We will then look at one more and one less than the given numbers. We will look at shapes and how we can sort them or use these to make pictures and positional language and whether toys are on top, below underneath or next to each other.
In PE we are focussing on movement and working together to move around in different ways, moving on to some gymnastic skills.
