Class 3JP

11/12/2019

It may be December and the end of term could almost be in sight but Class 3JP have been making a valiant effort in refining their progress across all subjects.

In our recent English lessons our objective has been to persuade.  Utilising our Reading Skills story ‘A Christmas Carol’ (Dickens) we applied our learnt skills to write to Ebenezer Scrooge to advocate that Bob Crotchet should have Christmas day off from work and Tiny Tim should receive medical help.

We have linked our learning in History about the Victorians to our creativity in Art lessons and have applied our knowledge of William Morris’s floral wall paper patterns to create our own festive themed designs.  Additionally, we have found out how Victorian people went to school, were resourceful and creative with their games.  This connected with our homework projects.

Bringing things back into the present, in our recent Computing lessons we have developed and enhanced our understanding of block coding.  Throughout this half term, we have considered algorithms and code from various perspectives.  In last week’s lesson we experimented with debugging, the technical term for fixing broken or incomplete code.  You can try it out by clicking here:   https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/475483/

Solving problems has been a useful skills which we have also deployed in our Maths learning.  Utilising our knowledge of the four times tables, Year 3 have begun to get familiar with the eight times tables too.  This has broadened our skill base and given us opportunities to revisit multiplication, division and inverse relationships.  Many of us are very excited to be using the Mathletics app in school and at home to challenge ourselves further.  Last week, 3JP were one of the top three classes in school, with four children scoring in the top ten leader board.
