Year 1 explored large maps of the UK and can now confidently show where Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales are. Whilst looking at castles this half term, they located castles around the UK and use directional language to describe places in East Tilbury.
Year 2 have been using their knowledge of the 4 compass points to find and locate places in the United Kingdom and place them onto maps – there’s been lots of creative learning happening in key stage 1.
Year 3 enjoyed finding out about the impact of deforestation and carried out a practical demonstration of this to help them understand the significance. They have used their geographical knowledge to develop their mapping skills whilst looking at the Romans.
In Key stage 2 they have been looking at developing their mapping skills by locating places, features, oceans and seas within the UK and the world. They are becoming more aware of how to use grid-referencing when locating these when using an atlas and OS maps.
We are all looking forward to finding out more about the places that the families and staff from East Tilbury visit both in the UK and the World. We’ve received postcards from around the UK and Europe.
We wonder how far our furthest postcard will come from? Keep sending them throughout the year.
