I have been privileged enough to spend some time in Year Four over the last few weeks while working with some of the trainee teachers. The children have really impressed me within their French lessons with their superb French vocabulary and recall skills. The lessons I have seen have been great fun and the children have clearly enjoyed participating in the learning. They were even able to follow classroom instructions in French such as ecoutez (listen), regardez (look) and rèpèter (repeat). Year Four are lucky enough to have a teacher within the year group this year that speaks French, but I don’t think it will be long and the children will be as fluent as she is. In 4NB and 4CP, the children were not only able the recall language that had been taught in previous lessons, but they were also able to put this language into sentences to answer questions posed by the teacher and their peers.
