It’s good to get back to normality with only some minor adaptations to our PE lessons.
We have followed guidance from the government, the Assocation for Physical Education, Youth Sport Trust, Active Essex and the Thurrock School Sport Partnership. We have used this to plan our long-term PE plan for this year carefully.
PE lessons at present will solely focus on the development of skills, rebuilding that loss of functional capability, addressing social isolation through activities such as OAA (Outdoor and Adventurous Activities) and increasing motivation and confidence. Currently we will not be allowing team games or the use of equipment in PE lessons, except for footballs which pupils will only use with their feet.
We will continue to monitor how and when we can start to implement the use of equipment and team games into our lessons through each sport's national governing body as well as the government's advice.
Children will be taking part in outdoor PE this term where they can make use of the school grounds and get as much fresh air as possible during that hour-long lesson. Lessons will not be allowed indoors.
Reception children are focussing on developing their fundamental skills using the create real PE scheme of work.
Year 1 are developing athletics skills
Year 2 are developing football skills
Year 3 are developing athletics skills
Year 4 are developing football skills
Year 5 are completing Outdoor Adventurous Activities which includes orienteering, Scavenger hunts, fitness and team building.
Year 6 are developing football skills
The Daily Mile will go ahead every day, classes have a time when they are able to go outside for that much needed brain break onto the playground or field. This will be aspirational but realistic and personal fitness goals will be set by the class teacher.
Children will also be encouraged to set themselves personal challenges to boost their self-esteem during PE lessons and in the daily mile.
Please ensure children are equipped to go outside for PE in the cooler weather. Children should have a PE jumper, joggers/shorts, PE shoes, socks and their PE t shirt.
