In Maths we have been learning about money, where we have been recognising coins and notes and matching them to their value. We have enjoyed playing shops, taking it in turns to be the shop keeper and customer, ensuring we have the right money to pay for our items.
In Topic we learnt about Chinese New Year. First, we talked about what it is and why it is celebrated. Then, we discussed how people celebrate the occasion. We learnt that on New Years’ Eve, families have a spring clean and gather together to have a big feast. On New Year’s Day, some people go to the temple to worship and people usually go to visit the relatives. Children receive red envelopes with sweets and money. In class we made our own red envelopes and even tasted some Chinese food like bean sprouts, noodles, rice and prawn crackers. We practiced our fine motor skills by using chopsticks to pick up noodles.
In Outdoor learning we discussed our senses and what each of them are. We then went outside to the garden and looked at and smelt part of a rosemary plant, smelling and looking at it. We used magnifying glasses to try and find the rosemary plant. We had a fantastic time and even discovered some other plants such as lamb’s ears.
