We actively promote homework and in response to feedback from pupils, parents and carers about this, we have streamlined procedures around this.
Once a term, all pupils will be given project-based homework, to be completed over a period of weeks within one half term.
In addition to this, pupils in KS1 and KS2 will be given weekly spellings or phonics as well as Times Table targets to be practised daily at home. Activities, including those found in Mathletics and the Nelson scheme will be signposted and/or provided to help pupils to practise their basic skills at home and to help parents and carers to support their children with this.
Spellings and Times Tables will be tested weekly and test scores recorded in pupils’ Home-School Record books, so that parents and carers are kept informed of their child’s progress. Pupils are also expected to read every day and we recommend a period of at least 20 minutes (Y5/6), 15 minutes (Y3/4) or 10 minutes (Y1/2/R) for this.
Paper copies of all homework projects and weekly spellings will be provided. Times Tables and additional copies of projects and spellings will be posted on the class page section of the school website.
Parents and carers will be invited into school once a half term for our new project evenings. These events will showcase the children’s work and provide an opportunity for parents and carers to see the class teacher and classroom environment. These dates are available on the school calendar.
